Hiking and Nature Trails in Center Harbor

Squam Lakes Trails

The Squam Lakes Association maintains the Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest Trails and the Belknap Woods Trails. Trail maps cost $6 and help pay for the cost of maintaining trails. We have some reprints of these trails here, but they are not as detailed as the for cost maps. To get a proper trail map, visit The Squam Lakes Association. The maps below are GIFs. You can also use an interactive recreation map for more information about the Squam Lakes campsites and trails.

  • Chamberlain-Reynolds Memorial Forest is a 157-acre forest with over a mile of waterfront and was donated to New England Forestry Foundation in 1953. Its shorefront area and trails are managed for public use by the Squam Lakes Association. There are several beaches, a swamp board walk and over 4 miles of hiking trails. The trails start on College Road in Center Harbor, between Rte 25-B and Route 3 and boat access is available at docks shown below. Dogs are allowed but must be on a leash at all times and you must clean up after your pet.
  • Belknap Woods is a 90-acre forest in Center Harbor, which was donated to SLA in 1986. Belknap Woods is located at the mouth of Dog Cove and along Rte 25-B. This forest provides carry in boat access for canoes and kayaks to Dog Cove on Squam Lake and is the nearest put in for the Chamberlain Reynolds Memorial Forest. There is a network of trails for hiking, mountain biking, snowshoeing, and cross-country skiing.

Lakes Region Conservation Trust

Center Harbor Woods is a 224-acre scenic, natural and recreational resource lying equidistant from Lake Winnipesaukee and Squam Lake.  This land was conserved in 2010 through a unique collaboration of three conservation partners - the Lakes Region Conservation Trust (LRCT), which owns the land, the Squam Lakes Conservation Society (SLCS) and the Town of Center Harbor, which hold the conservation easement.

Center Harbor Woods trails may be accessed from three points:
